With the growth of the medical work in PAMAS Palawan, there is an increasing need for a trackable, traceable, and efficient medical records system. Paper is becoming too cumbersome to be effective. More and more patients are seeking help at SPHI (Southern Palawan Health Institute) for wellness screenings and health education. The student body in the Pengandel Literacy Center is also growing. Each school term there are more students at the school checkups.
Med missions continue to tap into new communities and villages of people. With the increased breadth in the medical work and a larger medical team, an electronic medical record system could enable better continuity of care, timely follow-up, and effective treatment. Such a system would require the purchase of several electronic devices, initial development and set-up costs, and a subsequent yearly subscription payment.
This investment may at a glance appear mundane, but in reality it will contribute to the care of every student in the schools; every elderly grandma that comes for a medical screening; every child that comes for a dental service; every young mother that comes for a hydrotherapy treatment; and every lifestyle guest that walks through the doors or SPHI. It’s an investment in the care of people—to show to the people of Palawan the love of a personal, compassionate God.
