PENGANDEL LITERACY CENTER: Empowering Minds, Nurturing Souls
Pengandel Literacy Center (PLC) stands as a beacon of hope and education in the rugged landscapes of Brooke’s Point, Palawan. Under the auspices of the Philippine Adventist Medical Aviation Services (PAMAS), a non-stock, non-profit missionary organization dedicated to serving the Filipino community through medical flights, educational endeavors, and spiritual upliftment. PLC embodies the spirit of service and compassion.
Our Mission and Vision
Our vision, PLC aims to provide a Christ-centered education that promotes the development of a person - physical, mental, social and spiritual - to be a channel of light.
Embedded within our mission is the essence of love for God and humanity. PLC aspires to educate the individual in the Gospel that he may love God above all else and devote himself in the service of God and men in this world and in the world to come.
Philosophy of Education
At the core of our educational philosophy lies the belief that Jesus Christ serves as the ultimate model of true excellence. Through the judicious use of Holy Scriptures, we aim to impart students with not only a growing knowledge of their Creator but also a profound love for Him. Thus, the Bible serves as the cornerstone of our educational framework, guiding students on their journey of spiritual growth and enlightenment.
We firmly believe that true education is the science of redemption—a transformative process aimed at restoring individuals to the divine image in which they were created. By facilitating this process of redemption, we endeavor to help individuals realize the divine purpose inherent in their existence, thereby fulfilling the great object of life.
Educational Approach
PLC employs a dynamic educational approach tailored to meet the diverse needs of our students. We utilize the Alternative Learning System (ALS) for Elementary and Junior High School levels, providing a flexible and inclusive learning environment that accommodates students of varying academic backgrounds and abilities. Additionally, we offer the Basic Learning Program for Lower Elementary and Beginner levels, ensuring that every child receives the foundational education they need to thrive.
With five branches spread across the mountains of Brooke’s Point—Kabulnukan, Karusuan, Marma, Bongbong, and Bayog—PLC serves a total of 255 students under the guidance of our dedicated team of 13 teachers. Beyond academics, we strive to enrich the lives of our students through a variety of programs and initiatives.
Community Outreach
In collaboration with Child Impact International, PLC operates a feeding program that provides free lunch to our students, ensuring that they receive the nutrition they need to excel academically and thrive physically. Additionally, we conduct free dental and medical check-ups for our students every quarter, prioritizing their health and well-being.
Sponsorship Program for Senior High School Students
Recognizing the importance of continued education, PLC has opened a sponsorship program for Senior High School students who wish to pursue further studies in the lowlands. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for deserving students to access quality education beyond the confines of the jungle school, thereby empowering them to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Pengandel Literacy Center stands as a testament to the transformative power of education and the unwavering spirit of service. Rooted in our commitment to Christ-centered excellence and holistic development, PLC endeavors to illuminate minds, nurture souls, and empower communities, thereby ushering in a brighter, more enlightened future for all.
As we continue on our journey of enlightenment and empowerment, we remain steadfast in our dedication to serving as agents of change in the communities we serve. Together, let us embark on this noble quest of education and redemption, forging pathways of hope and enlightenment for generations to come.
